Hatchet 3 (2013) film review (Decker Shado movie review)

Hatchet 3 is Hatchet's horror film of 2013. It follows the ongoing adventures of Victor Crowley's adventures in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, as in addition to his brutal murderous rampage. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt plays Misty.

The film's greatest strength is the use of real-world special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects and sets. This is a departure from many horror movies today that rely heavily upon CG effects. It also features some really horrifying moments.

Kane Hodder (blog post) stands out as an intimidating character. The cast gives a solid performance. The dialogue is sufficiently campy and witty to feel like a true 1980s slasher film at times. There are also some truly funny moments that offer an entertaining contrast to the heart-wrenching violence.

Due to the budget being $1 million, most places were reused from earlier films. The boat house that was used twice in the film was one example. A lot of the film appears to be a re-use from other films in the franchise. It can seem like it's all too familiar especially for people who've already seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2

Overall, Hatchet 3 was enjoyable although it was very similar in tone to previous entries in the series. It was filled with thrilling thrills and entertaining performances by its cast members.
